THE CLIENT
Smart Storage was launched in January 2005 tapping into the growing buzz around self-storage with its first unit in Merseyside. Entrepreneurs Jon Wyles and John Harrington had spotted an increasing demand from domestic and commercial customers for additional space to store everything from skis and golf clubs to dusty legal documents.
STRATEGY AND PLAN
Mason Media was introduced to Smart Storage ahead of its launch in 2005 with a brief to build awareness in the local media through PR.
Because the majority of self-storage customers come from a small radius of their nearest unit, the focus is very much about maximising local awareness.
Mason Media worked closely with contacts in the local press, radio and business magazines, initially encouraging journalists to report on how this US trend had come to Merseyside and then following up with a number of consumer angles.
MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION
Extensive, sustained coverage was achieved around the launch with highlights including interviews with BBC Radio Merseyside, Buzz FM, Liverpool Echo, Daily Post and business magazines, Insider and EN.
RESULTS
Smart Storage has since expanded rapidly and now has five units across the North West. Mason Media has developed a lasting relationship with the company, handling consumer launches for all new units as well as business PR.
