Mason Media is working with celebrity chef Simon Rimmer to promote the increasingly successful new foodie website www.eatthechef.com.
Eat the Chef’s aim is to create the world’s largest compendium of video recipes from the humble scrambled eggs on toast and the perfect roast potatoes to the likes of Mexican style eggs and lobster thermidor.
You can follow every recipe in real time, while the star of each video explains the method, then post your comments on the ones you made and liked – or perhaps offer your own version of a favourite recipe.
Already the website is attracting more than 30,000 hits per month and people are posting all sorts of different recipes.
These range from the most unusual such as Turducken – or pigeon in a chicken in a duck in a turkey (http://www.eatthechef.com/recipe.aspx?id=113) – to family friendly recipes such as Super Sue’s Chicken and Chorizo Pasta (http://www.eatthechef.com/recipe.aspx?id=4) to the funny such as How Not To Make A Cheese Toastie. (http://www.eatthechef.com/recipe.aspx?id=111)
The site is bringing out the film making creativity in some home cooks with one interesting alternative for making yummy peanut butter cookies set to some crazy music and like a mini movie. (http://www.eatthechef.com/recipe.aspx?id=93).
Eat the Chef is the brainchild of young entrepreneurs Omar Saeed and Paul Finnegan and is backed by TV chef Simon Rimmer of BBC’s Something For The Weekend fame.
Paul says: ‘Thanks to the recession, people are spending more on groceries because they are going out less. But they are looking for new things to cook and, with the growth of social media, are quite happy to go online for inspiration rather than ploughing through a dusty cookbook.
‘Our website appeals to all sorts of people from those who can’t boil an egg to those looking to push the boundaries in the kitchen.
‘Eatthechef.com is TV cooking by everyone, for everyone - it’s a sparking, social and cutting-edge way to share you recipes, cookery skills and personality. Whether you want to share your food and personality with the world, or you just want to learn how to cook what’s in your fridge, then it’s the place to be.’
Simon says: ‘I want to see what people are cooking in their own homes across the country – what their favourite recipes are and why they are special to them.
‘This website is all about real food cooked by real people. I would love people to have a go at making their favourite dishes, film themselves and post it online for others to share.’
